Paper Roll and Pinecone Squirrels

The squirrels around here have moxie. They have gone full nut frenzy, fearing not for their lives as they cross the road, navigating giant metal monsters infinity larger than themselves. Obviously this harrowing feat is worth every single nut they find, stash and munch on at a later date. It's possible, maybe, that squirrels are the bravest animals in all the land. And if that isn't reason enough to make your own Paper Roll Squirrels, than consider just how cute they really are. Aderable!

I love the movement these guys have. They are pretty fun, right? I put them in the kitchen by the jars of beans, white bean ghosts and ceramic pumpkins. They seem to fit right in. If only the sun were out, I could pop a nice pic up here! Otherwise, do trust that it's a scene full of Autumnal joy. And now, the DIY...

Gather:

Paper rolls

Pinecones

Brown and black paint

White paint

Scissors

Hot glue/gun

Pencils

Create:

1. Flatten your paper roll.

2. Draw a rough sketch of a squirrel using your pencil. Use our squirrels to guide you or use these images:

The trick to creating these squirrels with paper rolls is to draw the nose on the fold of the paper roll. That gives a neat 3D effect to the squirrels. As you open the paper roll, the nose will remain intact.

3. Continue sketching your squirrel until you are happy with it. Once complete, cut out the squirrel, remember to leave a section intact on the paper roll for the nose. (Never fear however! Should you accidentally cut off the fold, simply glue it back together.

4. Cut off the back of the paper roll area, where the tail would go.

5. Glue the pinecone on to the paper roll.

6. Use black and white paint to create details such as eyes, nose and mouth.

Now place your superhero squirrels in a fun location and admire!

Happy Fallidays, friends!
